Unexpected Song: Back to Before

Quick Life Update: My life has been crazy so I apologize for not posting a lot. I'm hoping to get my life under control soon and plan on doing a lot of reviews for some upcoming tours I'm seeing! Now onto the post!

I, shockingly, only have had Ragtime in my life for less than a year now. If you don't know what Ragtime is it is this absolutely gorgeous musical that tells the story of 3 different groups of people (Whites, Blacks and Immigrants) during the early 20th Century in America. It is an absolutely gorgeous piece with a book by Terrence McNally and a score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. If you ever have the chance to go see this show then do it. It is gorgeous and I gurantee you it will change your life. My favorite song in this show is the 11 O'clock number "Back to Before" sung by Mother where she examines everything that has happened to her throughout the show and realizes there is no going back. The song is just absolutely exquisite and I wanted to share some of my favorite covers of that song.

Fresh Blooded Principles in Wicked (Part 3)

It's only been a few months since I last made a post about fresh blooded principles in Wicked and look how much has changed since then! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 5 YEARS WE GOT A FRESH BLOODED ELPHABA ON BROADWAY!!!! HANNAH IS PROOF OF WHY CASTING FRESH BLOOD IS IMPORTANT AND VITAL TO A PRODUCTION!!! We also got a new Madame Morrible, Nessarose and Boq on the US Tour as well as a new Fiyero and Dr. Dillamond in the West End. Unfortunately we still have no fresh blood in the role of Glinda across the boards (Although it was a given the UK wouldn't have a fresh blood since they just had Sophie Evans.) We also have no fresh blood Elphaba for another year on the West End. I really don't understand why casting directors find it so difficult to cast fresh blood in the roles of Elphaba and Glinda. There are so many amazing women who could do these roles and they just keep bringing back the same often mediocre people or only promoting the most mediocre standbys. It's time for some fresh blood in the two lead roles Wicked. I'm getting tired of seeing the same people. Again, I've listed dates of the latest fresh blood in a role meaning they were never an understudy or standby and/or weren't in a prior production of Wicked before. If a person's name is underlined that means they are currently in the show.
